Holiday Party Décor Toronto: How to Style a December Celebration That Photographs Beautifully

December Fills Up Earlier Than You Think

Every year the same thing happens: early October feels far too soon to be thinking about a holiday party, and then the best dates go quickly. Our own planning guides recommend booking three or more months ahead for December, and we're already inside that window — so if you're hosting an office celebration, a family gathering, or a New Year's Eve party anywhere in Toronto or the GTA, now is the right moment to start the conversation.

This guide covers how we style the three most common December setups, what's working in holiday décor this season, and how to build a look that photographs well without turning your room into a seasonal-aisle cliché.

Three December Setups, Styled Differently

The Office or Corporate Holiday Party

The goal is atmosphere, not branding overload. A holiday party is the one corporate event where people are meant to relax, so the room should do the work of making that easy: warm lighting, one statement installation near the entrance, and a clear photo moment so the team has somewhere natural to gather. We cover the broader corporate approach in our corporate event décor guide — for a holiday party, lean into the "one statement piece" advice and let everything else stay simple.

The Home or Family Gathering

Smaller rooms need a different strategy. Instead of filling the space, pick one wall and make it count: a garland over a mantel or doorway, or a backdrop behind the main table or dessert display. A compact setup reads as intentional; scattered decorations across every room just read as busy.

New Year's Eve

This is the one night of the year where "more" is the right answer. Metallics, a disco ball over the dance floor, and a countdown moment people can photograph themselves with. Light-up marquee numbers spelling out the new year — 2027 this time around — give everyone an obvious countdown photo.

What's Working in Holiday Décor This Season

  • Organic balloon garlands, not rigid arches. The same shift we're seeing in every other season applies to December: mixed-size, asymmetric garlands that follow a doorway, staircase, or table edge look custom-built for the space. Mixing balloons with greenery, florals, or ribbon gives the installation an artistic, layered finish rather than a party-store look.
  • Metallic and layered palettes. Silver and white for a winter look, black and gold for New Year's Eve, or a classic red-and-white scheme for a traditional holiday feel. A single metallic tone against a quieter neutral base reads as more sophisticated than a multi-color mix. If you're drawn to richer color, our fall trends post covers the jewel tones and warm neutrals that carry nicely into winter.
  • A backdrop designed for photos. Whether it's a glittering shimmer wall, a neon sign, or a branded panel, guests photograph themselves in front of whatever's most eye-catching, and those photos become your event's best marketing. Decide on the photo wall first and build the rest of the room around it.
  • One bold moment over many small ones. A giant red-and-white arch at the entrance, or a silver shimmer wall behind the dessert table, does more than dozens of small decorations spread around the room.

A Simple December Timeline

  1. Now: Confirm your date, venue, and rough guest count, then request a quote so your date is on our calendar.
  2. 6–8 weeks before: Settle your palette and decide which one or two statement pieces anchor the room.
  3. 2–3 weeks before: Confirm venue load-in times and any access restrictions, so delivery and setup fit the window your venue allows.
  4. Event day: Delivery, plus full on-site setup if you've chosen an installation package (some pieces, like our rental-only shimmer wall, are delivered for self-setup).
  5. After: Pickup is arranged with your booking, so you aren't dealing with decorations the morning after.
