The Calendar Just Turned Over in Forest Hill
Every year it happens the same way: Labour Day passes, the last of the summer estate weddings wrap up, and our phone starts ringing with a different kind of request. Rosh Hashanah falls the evening of September 11 this year, and in Forest Hill that date does double duty — it's the start of the High Holidays, and it's the unofficial starting gun for Bar and Bat Mitzvah booking season. Families who've been waiting to lock in a date do it now, and the estate homes, private clubs, and synagogue halls that host these events fill up quickly.
At the same time, we're finishing out a run of late-summer garden parties and milestone birthdays with a noticeably different look than what we were building in June. Here's what's actually changing in the requests coming into the studio.
Palette Shift: Out With Pastel, In With Jewel Tones and Rich Neutrals
Summer in Forest Hill leaned soft — blush, ivory, champagne. That's fading fast. What's replacing it:
- Jewel tones — cobalt, emerald, and deep burgundy are showing up in balloon garlands, linens, and floral accents, often as a single bold color against a neutral base rather than a full rainbow palette.
- Rich, warm neutrals — espresso brown, warm taupe, and oatmeal beige are standing in for the stark white backdrops that dominated spring and summer.
- Green as the new neutral — olive and eucalyptus tones layered into garlands and centerpieces instead of treated as an accent color.
The reason this matters for Forest Hill specifically: these tones read beautifully against the neighbourhood's typical estate-home interiors and ballroom lighting. A cobalt or burgundy balloon cluster against a gold shimmer wall photographs completely differently than the same design would against a plain white tent wall — warmer, more intentional, less "party store."
Balloon Garlands Are Getting Looser, Not Bigger
The rigid, uniform balloon arch is on its way out. What we're building instead are asymmetric, organic garlands that mix small, medium, and jumbo balloons in one flowing line rather than a repeating pattern — draped along a staircase railing, framing a head table, or run the length of a hallway instead of confined to a single arch shape. It reads as more expensive, not less, because it looks custom-built for the space rather than dropped in from a catalog.

Bar & Bat Mitzvah Season Is Back — and Booking Early
We covered the full range of Bar and Bat Mitzvah décor options in an earlier post, but the timing point is worth repeating now specifically: with the High Holidays landing mid-September, most families are locking in dates for late fall and winter celebrations over the next several weeks. Forest Hill's private clubs and estate venues are a limited pool, and the popular Saturday-night slots go first.
